A Song About Feeling Mad and Using Movement For Self-Regulation: Grizzly Bear Grump

If you've listened to the Music For Kiddos Podcast, you know that SO much of my work is centered around a child's sensory system and the unique ways that they interact with the world.

Are they a sensory seeker? An avoider? Do they get easily overwhelmed? Do they crave jumping, crashing, or heavy work? ALL of this information is helpful as we work towards supporting them with music.

Enter GRIZZLY BEAR GRUMP, which is one of the (many, many) self-regulation songs that live inside the Music For Kiddos Community library. This song is a sensory-based movement song. It helps kids explore feelings of anger and frustration, and then it gives them specific sensory tools to help them self-regulate.

Grizzly Bear Grump is a great song for kids to pretend to be "grumpy" or "mad" and to learn some things they can do to manage those feelings.

Some of the coping skills in the song:
•stomp
•squeeze
•twist
•stretching

You can also ask the kids to come up with some ideas on how to feel better.

The goal? Kids practice these strong feelings + sensory tools when they're feeling GOOD, and then they have concrete things to try when they're feeling BAD. Simple, but sooo incredibly powerful.

This song also has a very-cool-not-cheesy groove... so kids in a wide age range LOVE it. (This has been a major winner in my Music For Kiddos Community membership!)
