A Fireworks Song For Kids!

For most of my life I've lived in a dry desert climate (Boise, Idaho). The wildest we get with fireworks? Something slightly larger than a sparkler! (With a bucket of water ready JUST in case.)

And then I moved to Boston for college. The fireworks on the Charles River are EPIC. The Boston Pops play live in the background and it's MAGICAL!

...then I moved to Indiana. 😳

Never have I EVER experienced fireworks like I have in Indiana. People go all out and the whole sky lights up with those massive fireworks that shoot 50+ feet in the air. You can plan to not sleep for multiple nights because it is a PARTY. The first year there I thought.... "Isn't this illegal?!" Nope. It's not.

Well, Indiana turned me into someone who officially loves fireworks. I'm back in Boise now and I will miss Indiana SO MUCH on July 4th this year! (Though y'all can keep the cicadas!)

(I'd love to hear about your most magical firework experience -- just drop a comment at the end of this post!)

A fireworks song for kids!

What better way to illustrate how fun and vivid fireworks are than with a fireworks movement song? "Boom, Boom" is a firework song for kids where kids can pretend to "pop pop pop" like a firework and "BOOM."

”Boom, Boom”, which is one of the songs included in our Lights Music Lesson Plan, is a perfect movement song to commemorate holidays or occasions in which fireworks are used to celebrate like Juneteenth, New Year's Eve, Diwali, the Fourth of July (USA), Lunar New Year, and any other holiday in which fireworks are involved!

My favorite fireworks movement prop for music time

Have you ever used props to depict fireworks? I have!

I love using these rainbow streamers from Bear Paw Creek. They look like fireworks, don’t they?! Kids can engage in creative movement with this fireworks song while waving their streamers up and down, side by side and all around.

If you don’t have these streamers, movement scarves will work well, too. My favorite scarves are also from Bear Paw Creek and you can find them here.
