Whether you are a music teacher or therapist spreading the word about your music lessons or sessions to attract more clients in your community, building your brand and presence online as a professional, or marketing your music education or music therapy products or resources, learning about social media is a must.

The digital world is here to stay and that’s why it is essential for music teacher and music therapists to learn and understand the ins and outs of marketing their businesses online to grow their revenue and impact.

Social media gets a bad rap sometimes, however. I would even admit that sometimes I get a gross feeling when I think about these words, and I know I’m not the only one that feels this way. But in order to have a business that makes an impact and that can make a difference, I’ve had to reframe what social media marketing is for me. It isn’t gross, it’s generous, it’s kind, and it’s authentic.

If you are working on building your social media presence and marketing strategies or, if you are doing some online marketing for your teaching business already, but want guidance on what to focus on next, here are some tips:

  1. Shift your mindset: Like I said before, I truly believe that the first step in developing a social media marketing strategy for your business as a music therapist and music educator is that mindset shift. Social media marketing can be fun, it can be generous, it doesn’t have to be “salesy.”

  2. Decide on your values & ethics: How you are going to do execute your online marketing strategy in a way that you don't have to apologize to yourself for it later for selling out or not staying true to your values?

  3. Choose your social media platforms but not overwhelm yourself: YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter…the list goes on and what to choose? Like I discuss on episode 17th of the Music For Kiddos Podcast, it is really important for you to focus on 1 or 2 platforms and go from there.

  4. Build your email list: This is the most important strategy to grow your business. Educator and business owner Kayse Morris said that email list building is said to be “about 122% more effective than social media when it comes to marketing.”

I talk more about these and other tips to start your social media marketing strategy to build your music education or music therapy business on episode 17th of the Music For Kiddos Podcast.

P.S. There’s a special promo code at the end of the episode for our podcast’s listeners to get almost 50% off of our Social Media Marketing For Music Therapists and Music Educators course. 😉
